[Elecraft] Thinking of selling my K2 wondering about value?

Now that I have my K3 I am considering selling my K2 #5703, KPA100, KAT100,
KNB2, KSB2, KAF2, K60XV, K160RX built a little over 2 years ago. I would
appreciate input as to what all this is worth as the deciding factor will be
how much I can get so I can buy a new mobile HF rig (sure wish Elecraft had
one) and then use my old IC-706 MK2 at the lake cabin. I just don't like
the idea of the K2 sitting at the lake and only being used on weekends and I
have a nice TS-830S i want to keep as backup at home.

Respond here or if you want to save bandwidth to ***@cox.net

It is worth more than you will get for it in cash terms. When you sell it you
may miss it and may have to build or buy another one. I am keeping mine!

However, I believe $600 is the going rate for the basic K3, at least it is
over here in Europe. Yours has many options so could easily be worth perhaps
$1200. I work on the simple principle that new, second hand gear is worth at
most around 2/3 of the current new price. But, K2s and K3s can exceed this.
As it is the 100W model you might get more if you sell the KPA100 and KAT100
separately. The 10W K3 with the transverter interface is a popular driver
for VHF and up and also is still a popular QRP radio, you would probably get
nearly $800 for it and maybe $500-600 for the PA/ATU.

I am not sure why you think the K2/100 is not a good mobile rig. It has
everything necessary except a remote head unit. If it will not fit you might
be better off getting a different vehicle, or sticking with the 706.

The K2/100 would be hard to mount in a mobile situation and I would not want
to subject a K2 to the harsh mobile enviroment.

The mounting problem is a vehicle dependent consideration, but the
K2/100 itself will "take it". I know of at least 1 K2/100 which I built
that was mounted and used in an 'over-the-road, long haul' 18 wheeler
for a few years, and I never heard of any problems that occurred with
it. The owner was quite active while on the road because he enjoyed
giving new counties on the county hunter net. I can't think of a more
harsh mobile environment than that.

I'm not questioning the K2's ability to take the punishment as I'm sure it
can rather I just don't want to subject such a nice rig that I spent hours
building to that abuse. Like I said in my original post I'm just thinking
about selling the K2 and wanted to see what it might be worth. The more I
think about it I may just take the 830 to the lake tho it's big for a small
cabin and keep the K2 at home next to the K3.

Like I said in my original post I'm just thinking
about selling the K2 and wanted to see what it might be worth.
List it on ebay with a high asking price or reserve price. Ask a high
price and use the make offer option. That's the best way to determine
value. If someone meets the high asking price, buy and build
another K2. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it, no
more, no less.

I've done a -lot- of selling on eBay and view it as the ultimate
appraiser. An item -will- bring what it's worth, even if it's not
what -you- think it's worth. (;-)
