Hi all,

I am just waiting for my KX3 kit to be delivered and was looking at the P3 Panadapter for a future purchase, how well does the P3 integrate with the KX3 ?

My apologies if this has been asked before.

Graham,

Elecraft did write, in an email a year or so back, that they might be
producing an adaptor which would allow the KX3 to work with the P3.
Whether it is still on the cards I don't know.

Graham,
I don't know if the P3 can be interfaced easily with the KX3, but
what I have been telling folk who want a good spectrum display for their
KX3 is to use NaP3 and a good quality sound card.

Elecraft was really smart by making the I & Q data available
directly on the side of the radio. What that means is that all you need
to do is run these two channels into the input of your sound card and
run the software. You will now have a fully integrated display with your
KX3 at a very reasonable cost.

One of the reasons I bought the KX3 was my inference that I could
do this. and, I was correct. NaP3 is a subset of the Flexradio PowerSDR
software and is quite good. This allows you to use either the radioss
audio or sound card's audio using the capabilities of the software.
Which is best? Both. There are some advantages to each and I love them
equally. My new sound card was $150 from Sweatwater delivered. I have an
EMU by Creative labs, but that is a little temperamental on my Win7 64
system, but it was only $100.

You can make a P3 function with a KX3, I assume. But it is going to
require some engineering and surgery. I think I would go with the
simplest first as a trial. You might just want to stay with that
configuration. Right now, there are at least 5 of us using the easy way
and all seem happy.

Hi all,

Just like to say a big thank you to all who replied to my question, it looks like the software option is the way to go for now I will look around for something that will run on my Mac, I think that I should be able to use DSPradio by DL2SDR and put the P3 on the wish list for now along with the K3.

Hi Graham,

The P3 is designed to work with transceivers that bring IF out, such
as the K3. The KX3 has I/Q outputs, not IF.

Many Windows/MacOS programs, such as HPSDR, provide a panadapter
function that samples I/Q from the KX3 using a stereo sound input. I
believe this type of setup is what most KX3 owners use in place of the
P3.

The P3 integrates *very* well with the K3!

Short version: the P3 does not work with the KX3 at all. It is K3-only. --wunder, K6WRU

Actually, the P3 will function with a transceiver with an IF under
20-some MHz, where the IF output is available. The P3 integrates best
with the K3 though.
